UMCOR Relief Efforts ~ at Home and Abroad
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is mobilizing resources to respond to the latest natural disasters.  Flooded and Tornado-ripped cities and towns in the Midwest are in need of cleaning kits to begin the long process of picking up the pieces of lives devastated by recent storms.

Abroad, UMCOR is responding to the needs of Nepal, recently torn apart by two massive earthquakes.  Thousands are in need of shelter, clean water, clothing, food and medical care.  No one person can do everything, but every person can do something.

What can you do to help? Support UMCOR's work by clicking here. 100% of your donation will go to UMCOR's International Disaster Response effort.

If you prefer to send a check, send it to Alabama-West Florida Conference, 4719 Woodmere Blvd., Montgomery, AL 36106.
Make it payable to AWFC with Nepal Disaster Relief #982450 in the memo line.
Whitfield UMC is partnered with other UM churches around the world through the United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR).  100% of all donations given to UMCOR for disaster relief are used for relief efforts - relief funds are NOT used for any administrative costs.
It seems it's always Severe Weather Season in Alabama.  Below are some ways that we can help when disaster strikes, whether the need is close to home or far away.  The task of recovery may be enormous, but we can help.  We must.
Here's how YOU can help:
1.  PRAYER - please PRAY for the victims, families, residents and communities affected by severe weather events.  PRAY for the relief volunteers, the professional Fire, Rescue, Medical personnel bringing comfort and aid to these areas.  PRAY for the clergy and other counselors providing comfort and compassion to those affected by these storms.  PRAY for God's presence to be felt by all those involved.  PRAY for God's guidance as to what else you might do.
2.  DONATE BLOOD - Contact your local Red Cross or LifeSouth Community Blood Center for donation locations near you (www.lifesouth.org).  There is always a great need for blood donations during natural disasters.
3.  CASH DONATIONS - Monetary donations can be made directly to your local UM church, noted for UMCOR Relief, or directly to UMCOR at www.umcor.org for specific Advance Case Numbers.  Remember, 100% of your donation will go directly to disaster relief.
4.  LABOR - Volunteers are always needed.  There are a variety of ways you can donate your time to recovery and clean up efforts.  Trained and non-trained volunteers are welcome.
5.  UMCOR HEALTH KITS - Whitfield UMC's UM Women are collecting assembled & unassembled  Health Kits to be delivered to disaster areas.  For instructions on how to assemble these kits, pick up a flyer in the church office, or download an instruction sheet at www.umcor.org - How to Give - Relief Supplies
6.  OTHER DONATIONS - The following items are always in great need during natural disasters.  Keep this list handy so when an emergency occurs, you are ready to give:
Bottled Water
Adult and Child Diapers

Work gloves, shovels, garbage bags
