Adult Ministries

Whitfield UMC offers a variety of opportunities to grow in faith and serve in mission. 

Adult Sunday School

Adult Sunday school is a foundational ministry at Whitfield UMC.  Sunday school provides adults with opportunities to grow in faith through study and discipleship as well as fellowship, mission and service involvement.

 

Sunday school classes meet from 9:15 – 10:00 am.

Sheppard Center 

 

The classes are listed below with their locations and teaching formats.  We invite you to visit the various classes and find the one that fits your interests.

 

College Class – This class has an informal discussion format and meets in the Sheppard Center in room #62.  The class is open to all persons who are college age.  Their discussions center around faith issues that relate to life concerns that they are facing.

 

Davis Martin Class – This is a discussion class for any age adult and meets in the Sheppard Center:  Room #66.  Presently, the class is studying the Book of Revelation using a video lecture series by Dr. Mickey Efird, professor at Duke Divinity School.  Each session includes the lecture followed by group discussion.  The class will begin an overview of the Bible – from Genesis to Revelation by Dr Efird after the current study ends.  This study is also video lecture based. 

 

Keystone Class – This is a lecture-format class for middle to older adults that meets in the Sheppard Center in Room #73.  The class uses the Adult Bible Study series.  The spring series will focus on “The Promise of New Life” – Ezekiel and “The Path to New Life” – Luke-Acts.  The summer series will be:  Call of God’s Covenant Community.

 

Seekers Class – This is a discussion class for all ages of adults and meets in the Parlor in the Education Building.  This class enjoys a lot of lively discussion around a variety of topics.  The current discussion is on Grace.                                                      .

 

Susie Peach Foster Class – This is a lecture/discussion class for middle to older adults that meets in the Sheppard Center in Room #57.  In the spring, they will begin their study of Ezekiel – Malachi.  These studies highlight pivotal points in the Scripture as it lifts up the Bible’s most significant stories, themes, events and people.  This summer our class will begin a study on the gospel of Acts using the Efird Bible Study series.  The format will be video/discussion, with each person having their own participant workbook.

 

Wednesday Night Programs

We invite you to join us for our Wednesday night Fellowship Supper and program.   We offer a wide range of Wednesday programs, including short-term seasonal studies, video lessons & discussions, community interest speakers, musical programs, testimonies, children/youth special programs... The list goes on and on.

Join us for a wonderful meal, a wonderful program and a wonderful time of fellowship each week.
